Education

The Saxon Sanctuary offers a variety of programmes for schools, colleges and universities. Details can be obtained from office@saxonsanctuary.org.uk

The most popular is a cross-curricular 'monks’ day' for Key Stage 2 children which gives them a taste of the Benedictine life, including a robed procession, bee-keeping and a frugal lunch. Brass-rubbing and bell-ringing are available options.

Sixth forms and Universities often devise their own programme in collaboration with The Saxon Sanctuary, perhaps majoring on architecture, wall-painting or memorials.

The Saxon Sanctuary's education programme stays fresh through the close involvement of Wootton Wawen C.E. Primary School, which holds regular school services and project classes in St Peter's. With the Education Authority's artist-in-residence, Wootton’s schoolchildren at the millennium created a large and colourful wall-hanging for the church’s main worship area entitled “The Spirit of Life”.
